i have major issues with my furling mainsail - it folds over when furling in and out and jams. I had a professional rigger look at it but it still jams. I need professional help! Do you know an excellent rigger in the Marina del Rey area in Los Angeles.

Thanks,

Viktor

jammed mainsail

I had similar issues.Check archives, many, many postings and articles on this very issue. Most important,Keep tension on the outhaul when furling and tension on the in -furling line.practice, practice by pulling out sail 1/3rd and roll it in.Keep it tight when rolling the sail in.

Viktor, I have seen you ask for help on a few different threads. I also have in mast furling on my H38 since 2005 and have over come any problems. If you pm me we could make arrangements to go over your furling situation. I'm in Long Beach not far from MDR. We could meet there are at the Isthmus. Allan

Viktor,
Ditto to what Sailmaster39 said...plus always always haul your main in and out while into 'irons' and keep the boom vang loose. It's been trouble free since I've followed this procedure. One more tip...if your main has been furled for say, over a month then before hauling it out...tighten it up with the outhaul, keeping the inhaul locked. This will tighten up the wrap and prevent the main sail from billowing or bunching in the mast. Do the latter, unlock the inhaul and it should come out much easier. I have partial vertical battens on my main, but, for those with full vertical battens there is the possibility of the full verticals lying on top of one another inside the mast and causing bunching or jamming when outhauling the main.
Cheers!

I will try to add to what has already been said with my trouble free InMast H-36.
When furling in put a rap of the outhaul line around the winch and don't point into the wind but instead go off the wind either port or starboard and you will see that the sail is being push to the side of the mast slot and helping keeping presser on the sail as it go's into the mast and keeping the sail tight so no wrinkels going in.
I do furl in my sail with out a winch just by hand but I got good at this over many years since 07 and when my boat was new yes I pointed into the wind but the sail would bang around like crazy and am sure not good thing for tthe sail.
The thing is what ever it takes for you how to do is make the sail go back into the mast tight aand no wrinkels, try letting the boom go to port side and this will help putting presser on the sail as it go' into mast.
meet with another sailor to help you, practice at the dock
