Have a 1994 Hunter 23.5 which I purchased 1 year ago and am slowly refurbishing all. All hardware removed and re bedded, new sail covers, running and etc. Cabin sole could use some underside support. No bad fiberglass are gel. Floor is just thin and flexes some when one walk near the companion way. How do I fill the 1" are so space, void, between underside of sole and top of bilge/balast tank to eliminate the flex in floor. Has anyone fixed this issue on your boat between the sole lining and hull (bilge). I have thought that a 3/8" thick flooring would give support and extra strength. The area is only about 48" x 72". Would be easy to make a template in stall flooring. I still would like to wedge several places with dense foam to add support first. The material would need to be at least 1" or so thick. Anyone have any thoughts on this.

Try a small shot of aerosol insulation in a can that one uses around doorframes and crawlspace gaps. Very sturdy stuff and will fill the gap exactly.

I wouldn't fill with foam...... I'd probably just shape a joist or two to fit across the bilge.... notched at the bottom to allow water flow. You could glue or screw them to the underside of the sole, allowing you to remove or modify them more easily. I'd just make them out of wood and a coat of epoxy.

I'd not Mess With It

You would be transfering the stress to the top of the ballast tank. There is not much floor space there if it has some serious flexing you have other issues.

I am still on my two week hitch at the high arctic, Prudhoe Bay... I will be home for tow after the 19th and will review this issue.
Spray foam will expand, do not know how much, but could help support. However agree this will dam any water which would ever get into the shallow bilge area.

Ribs or joist I did think of. Did not have enough time to fit two or three short pcs of 1 by. can not be very long. will be tight fit to wedge. Let you know...

I have a few dense black foam pads used to kneel on if kneeling on grating or whatever. They are about the correct thickness. Will see if these wedge and help support the right points to the underside of sole. Hunter could have done a better job of supporting the liner in this area. Not Impressed...

Thanks for all the ideas. Keep thinking and I will keep in touch. Will send pictures to discuss.
