Purchased and installed a standard size Jabsco manual head in my H33 in August. We are in port a lot so we use fresh water to flush toilet to keep odors and bacteria down while not using the salt water flush. This is done manually with a small container we keep in the head to fill with water from the sink.Unit had performed flawlessly until last week when we were out and one person on board used the head, and after using he switched the lever over to fill from the salt water supply and then back to the off position. Every since then the toilet pump is very hard to pump and it makes a suction on the sea water inlet hose even though the valve on the toilet and the thru-hull are both shut. My first thought would be that the valve did not reposition when the handle was turned back to the right. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I"m guessing a failed flapper valve

Flipping the lever to "wet" wouldn't bring in any sea water unless the intake thru-hull is open...so it's entirely possible that pumping in the "wet" mode caused the flapper valve to become misaligned. And may also have caused the wet/dry cam to malfuntion.

I'm also guessing that you neglected to inform your guests that the intake seacock is closed.

Btw...flushing by only pouring water into the bowl is NOT good for the toilet pump...'cuz bowl contents only go through the bottom part of the pump, causing extra wear on the seals and o-rings in the the upper part of the pump from dry friction. If you want to use fresh water to flush all the time, there are several ways to supply water to the toilet via the sink drain...you can read all about 'em if you search the Headmistress forum for "fresh water flush." However, it's not necessary to waste that much fresh water to eliminate sea water odors...it's only necessary to rinse the sea water out of the system before the boat will sit. You'll find plenty of discussion about that solution in the HM forum too.

Jabsoc Head Malfunction

When we were out on the water the sea water thru-hull was open when the malfunction happened. I agree that it is probably the flapper vavle as you suggested. I will try and see if I can repair/replace parts and get it to work again. Thank you.
