My Jabsco manual head is only 3 years old installed by PO. This year (holding tank is empty) when the head has been flushed, it appears that waste water has been coming back into the bowl even with no volume in the holding tank. Could this be the choker valve? If so is it an easy repair that I can do? Another stupid question, does the tank first need to be pumped out prior to completing the replacement? Thanks

Head back flow

The first thing I would check is the holding tank vent. They frequently clog and create pressure in the holding tank when you empty the bowl. The easy way to see if this is your problem is to remove the pump out deck cap and try the head again. Properly installed the hose should rise six or eight inches after it leaves the head before it gets to the tank. The valve need slight pressure to work properly.
