jabsco holding tank pump repair?

I have an older jabsco (18590-1000) macerating pump ( probably 15 years old) that has the bronze bolts. I just discovered that two of those bolts are broken.

I see there are replacement bolts available that are made of stainless. They are about $20-$25.

A service kit with a new impeller, gaskets and "body" is available for about $70.

The old pump has worked fine and still seems to run and pump well.

So the question is, should I rebuild the old pump for $85 or so or just break down and get a new one for about $200?

I'm leaning toward a new one and could be easily convinced of that but thougt I'd get some input here.

edit: Also open to recommendations for different brands if not too much more money.

Thanks

I had same problem, I replaced the screw rods from hardware store and made a new gasket. The rods are different lengths.
In my case they broke because of the way it was installed with no room to flex. It was attached to the holding tank with a PVC T-connection.
When I reinstalled it I separated them with a 4" sanitation hose and installed a 3-way valve.

Over the course of my time on boats, I have repeatedly reminded myself, too late, that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Buy the bolts and get as much more life out of the one you have.

Buy some threaded rod at the hardware store. Cut to length and install. Don't spend $20 for something worth $2. You should be able to buy gaskets separate from the overpriced rebuild kit if that is all you need.

Sorry for the late response. I went away unexpectedly for a few days.

Thanks for the replys. I think I'll see if I can find the right size bolts or threaded rod and try that approach and see where it takes me.

Thanks again.

Hey,

My only comment is that there are VERY few jobs that are more unpleasant than replacing a macerator pump.

If you can avoid removing hoses (into and out of the pump) you will be a lucky person. If your pump still turns when power is supplied I would NOT want to change the entire pump when replacing a few broken bolts would solve the problem.
