Raritan PH-II . . .

I had a Jabsco compact for 14 years in my boat, and was fairly happy with it. Peggy has made several references late to the fact that Jabsco has greatly reduced the quality of these head over the past several years to the point where you can only expect a few years service from them. I replaced mine with the Raritan PH-II, per Peggy's recommendation, last month. Its a much better unit, flushes better, and appears to use less water. Try a search in the Archives under "Raritan" and you should find several articles about this head, including advice on how to replace your current head with this one.

PHII is the ticket.

The PHII is a great toilet. They are much easier to pump than toilet with a knob or 'T' handle too because of the leverage. The only thing is that they are slightly larger than most of the others on the market. I have a H'31 and there was very little room for adjustment, but it did fit.

That's the one...

PH II and its predecessor the PH have been rated the best manual toilet under $500 for decades. Recently Raritan introduced the PHC, which is the same pump but on a compact base...to fit spaces that are a bit small for the PH II.

Jabsco Junk?

I see these installed on lots of new boats and I've had them last over ten years with little or no problems. hunters ,searays,Bayliners , ....) They can be replaced for a hundred bucks. So you could spend five hundred on the PH or buy the hundred dollar head and start saving for a better boat!

What gave you the idea that a PH II costs $500?

It's the best toilet UNDER $500...for only about $200...and will provide at least 20 years of trouble-free service if it's only kept properly lubricated and rebuilt every 5-6 years for a cost of about $50. Or you can keep laying out $100 for a new Jabsco every couple of years that may not even remain trouble-free that long. It's price, not quality, that makes Jabsco the choice of most production boat builders (if you can buy one retail for $100, the OEM price can't even be half that much). When the sanitation "system" consisted of only a toilet, two thru-hulls and a little hose, they could afford to install better toilets, but holding tanks, y-valves, macerators etc have increased the cost of toilet facilities by 500% or even more, but they have to install 'em. So they use the cheaptanks and hoses they can find Only high end builders like IP and J-Boats are willing to put any money or even any real thought into a sanitation system...it's just a nuisance to be dealt with as cheaply as possible.
