I thought it might be worth a try contacting Jabsco. I replaced the entire pump assembly a little over a year ago (manual twist-lock). Worked fine for about 14 months then became hard to pump when switched to "empty". I replaced the joker valve, ensured the vent and discharge were not blocked or constricted but nothing helped. Then I read on several forums that this is a known issue caused by a manufacturing defect.

Apparently a few people have had a replacement shipped even though it's slightly outside the warranty period.

I'm curious if anyone can sugest how I best contact Jabsco? The only email address I can find is mail@jabscoshop.co.uk Phone numbers are all Uk as well.

The usual culprit is a failed wet/dry cam assembly...it hangs, feeling like backpressure. The cure is a new wet/dry cam assembly (not in the "service kit." Call Paul Campagna 978-282-5246 at Jabsco....he's their toilet tech guy. Your pump is new enough that he might send you a new one. If not, it may be time to upgrade to a toilet that has longer life expectancy.

I believe this was the last go around.

Thank you. I had searched and read dozens of posts but just needed a phone number or email address of who to contact at Jabsco.

I'll give them a call - can't hurt and might save me spending a hundred bucks on another pump assembly.

Will let you know how successful I am.

I'm really impressed with Jabsco customer service!
Called Paul and left voicemail explaining the situation. He called back an hour later and confirmed it was most likely the wet/dry mechanism.
My head is a few months out of warranty but be is sending me a new pump top and all associated gaskets.
He even explained how to properly reassemble and lube the piston.

All in all, an enjoyable experience. And if it fixes my problem for another couple years, that's great too.

He only sent you parts???? Hmmmm.... I hope his instructions for lubing the pump aren't the same ones that are in the installation instructions...For one thing, they call for Vaseline, which is a petroleum product...petroleum is highly damaging to rubber. What's more just cabbing a little of it on one o-ring won't do much good anyway....Worse yet, they only specify "glycol" antifreeze without saying that it needs to be non-petroleum PROPYLENE glycol ("the pink stuff"), NOT petroleum based Ethylene glycol. And besides, it's not the PISTON that needs lubrication, it's the cylinder wall--to protect the edges of the seals, o-rings etc from wear due to dry friction, salt etc. No wonder Jabsco pumps have short life spans...maybe by design so they sell more of 'em!

Here's the right way to lube any manual toilet:

Buy a tube of thick teflon or silicon grease...SuperLube is the best, Ace Hardware carries it. While you have the top off the pump, stick the tube nozzle into it and give it a healthy squirt--about a tablespoon of the stuff. Pump a couple of times to spread it all over the inside of the cylinder, put the top back on...you'll be good to go till next spring when you should do this again.

Btw...you can use the SuperLube grease on winches, seacocks, y-valves and anything lese that stays wet but needs lubrication.

I wasn't expecting anything (as it was out of warranty), so parts are a plus.
He did specify silicone lube. I already knew that from lubing pool pumps - same thing, petroleum based products attack the rubber.
Thanks for the tip about the Ace product - I'll give it a try.
I'll report back after I get the parts and install them.
