When is it time to trade up to a bigger boat? When your boat starts to feel too small? When it develops nagging maintenance problems and requires frequent repairs? When you fall in love with a newer, bigger model? Or just because you can? Is bigger truly better? Share you big ideas here, then vote in this week's Quick Quiz at the bottom of the home page.

Big Mac

So far, I love my MacX. However I do forsee a time when a big boat may be right for me. The Mac 65 is a great boat and I would love to have one. I really think it's too bad that Mac Gregor doesn't make something in the middle though. All us Mac owners will have to go to another brand, in order to work our way up. I think if Roger could come up with a 30ft trailer boat, based on the 26X, it might sell. I guess most people wouldn't want to pull something that long around though. I also think that something in the 30 to 40 foot range, fashioned after the Mac 65 would draw some attention. Particularly if it had a similar speed potential as the 65. Wouldn't you love to be the first one at your marina with a Mac 38 or 42, with it's Learjet style interior and it's high speed?? I sure would;)

Mac 35??

There have been rumors for the past couple of years of a new Macgregor 32-35 based on the Mac 26X cabin style but not trailerable, of course. Much requested is a larger head and larger V-berth. But these rumors are not confirmed. Myself? -- My mac is a toy and you know what happens when a new toy catches one's eye. It would be a purely emotional decision. We do not NEED a new boat.

Is it worth it??

We purchased a 26s new ten years ago. Five years ago when we wanted to try a larger boat, we purchased a used used 1989 Hunter 30. We kept the Mac because we were not ready to give up trailering, particulary with the regional MacGregor club. Love the size, performance, and comfort of the larger boat. Did not realize the additional cost and effort involved in maintaining a larger boat with larger and more complicated systems. We need to get back to one boat, and have been looking for a compromise. We keep hoping that Roger will bring out a trailerable boat in the 30' range, but as long has he can't make enough of the 26x to meet the demand, I don't see it happening. Hate the thought, but we keep looking at the Hunter 260. We have several Mac friends who have gone in that direction and have been very pleased. They are still members in and sail with the Mac group! Our advice would to be carefull about moving up. We all dream, but the Macs are a fine boat, and from our experience it is hard to get a bigger bang for the buck. Just my two cents.
