Acually worse than the storm that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald, which is much stronger than typical.

and another interesting one is the Storm of 1913, the worst disaster of the Great Lakes. 19 boats lost, 19 more washed ashore and 250 lives lost.

There's a curious story from the 1913 storm of sailors from one of the ships that had sunk on Lake Huron whose bodies washed up onto a beach in Ontario wearing life vests from another ship that sank in the storm.
