My boat has a isomat. If you remove it you are going to need a headstay since the isomat is the head stay. Its pinned top and bottom. Why are you removing it? Hi Larry. I am not removing the furling jib, I want to remove the attached mast furling unit. I cannot operate it from the cockpit as the forces are to great to either winch it out or in. You have to go up on deck and pull it out a a 90 degree angle to the mast. If you pull down it becomes impossible to work. Any thought you might have would be appreciated.
Thanks Rokqtmn
Ron,Larry, I believe he is saying this is not a jib furler. It is the in-mast furler for the main sail.
Larry, Ron is correct. The system I have is an external roller furling tube that slides into the mast sail track. The mainsail furls into this tube attatched to the mast.Sounds like what you have is an isofurl made by isomat. That was origional equipment to the boat. The one piece foil was shipped inside the mast. There is no head stay the Foil is the head stay. You might see if things work better if you slack off the backstay adjuster a bit before you try to furl. If that does not work its time for new bearings. You can order parts from :
www.rigrite.com.
You would need a tempary head stay or step the mast to get the furler down to install the bearings. If you decide to replace the system you need a new furler and headstay.
I have read other posts about the inmast furlers(which I assume function alot like yours, though yours is external) that were having the same problem. My boat has a isomat. Is there a block on the aft end of the boom that the line goes through to unfurl and then is it used as an outhaul?
Do you have a topping lift or rigid boom vang that you can adjust to make it come out more perpendicular to the mast?
Did it always function poorly or did it get worse over time?
