I am a Pearson 303 owner and have recently had to attempt to replace my old Isomat gooseneck assembly. For anyone familiar with this "ball and spring" system, what is installed first? If I clip the ball to the mast bracket, then the "jaws" of the boom-end cannot slip into place. If anyone has any idea of what I'm saying, please respond, for I must sail on Sunday.

Raise the boom

If it's like mine, the two plastic pieces are held on the gooseneck ring with the two clips. The jaws of the boom will slide in with the boom held up at a 45 degree angle. I use the topping lift to hold the boom up while I align the gooseneck.

Solved!

To Peach From Rochester: You're absolutely right. After I posted this question, I found another forum with about ten people discussing the same topic. However, they said raise the boom 30 degrees, which I tried, but as you said, you need about 45 to slip it in! Thanks for replying.
