I have a 1984 Hunter 31 and am getting ready to drop the mast, my question is; does anyone have an easy way to remove the Isomat (old Style) boom from the gooseneck? Do you remove the clips and balls (possibly droping in water) or is there an easier way?

I removed mine last week. After the mainsail was off and the boom kicker, vang, and traveler all I did was lift the boom up from end. I don't remember how high I had to lift it before it came out of the gooseneck. I had also removed the clips but afterwards remembered that it wasn't nessasary. I got lucky and the balls didn't fall out.
It's easier with 2 people one standing at the mast. You might be able to do it using the haylard to lift the boom.
I'm not sure if mine is the old style or not.
It wasn't that hard to do.

Another method

...would be to pull the big clevis pin that runs vertically through the gooseneck.

Good luck!
