How far from the inlet receptacle should the islolator be installed? Does ABYC specify?

Also the same question for main breaker? Any suggestions on this breaker?

My boat currently (original) has breaker near panel which is at least 15' wire length from receptacle.

Struggling with location of isolater not near heat of engine as specified, especially on hot days like today. Any suggestions or tips?

Thinking bout going to a new box (< 3') in quarter berth with the ground wire exiting box, going to isolater (mounted in high quarter berth) then back to box then onward to electrical panel breaker.

Thoughts?

If wire length to breaker exceeds 10' then you need a breaker at the entry to the boat too. The GI should be installed as close to the inlet receptacle as possible.. What you've suggested is a fine option just try to keep it as close to the inlet receptacle as possible...
