hi all,

in a process of buying an Island Packet 35 1989.
trying to learn it's pros and cons.
big advantages and pitfalls? things to beware of or any other piece of info.

Chainplates. See if previous owner(s) maintained the sealant on deck plates that cover the chainplate's protrusion above the deck.
Aluminum tanks are another caveat.

Check the fresh water system very closely and carefully. Last year I tore up the teak and holly floorboards with a demolition saw to replace the water tanks. He thought they were corrupted, and they were. Every water line, fixture, water heater, pumps, you name it, I replaced it all!
It wasn't cheap.

Of course that ten thousand dollar water maker needed new plumbing.

Outside of that, I really like the Island Packets!

Justsomeguyy hit it on the head.

Chainplates ans the state of the aluminum tanks are the two Island Packet specific issues you should check out. Other than that, it's like any other boat. The level on care and effort that was put into maintaining the boat will give you a very good idea of the state of the boat.

There is an IP specific board as well www.iphomeport.com that would be a great source of info from current owners.
