To meet codes you've got to make it so the generator is isolated from the main power feed
yes and true if you want want a full system installed.

But...
You can simply turn off you main meter switch before a Generator start.

It was the Cliff note version.:pimp:
_____
When I first installed my 17KW, 24 hours after Hurricane Katrina, we had very few electricians around.

I just clipped my meter seal and twisted my Meter to OFF and did the isolation.

When I build a new house with one, i have a automatic transfer switch with a 25 millisecond switching.

By the way..
My 9KW Boat Genset has an automatic transfer switch too.

I made it down last night to check on the boat and to turn off the fridge as the power was out over a wide area. Within minutes of arriving power was back on.
Yes, it was nice that I was able to turn on A.C. when I stayed over Wednesday night. Thunderbird is back in the water now, and will be in her old slip at least for the next month. I noticed the water isn't on at the "D" dock and I'm not sure about electricity, either. The surveyor used shore power at the travel lift.

The wind caused some slight damage on our boat. A couple of Dot fasteners came apart at the Bimini connector, but there doesn't appear to be any fabric damage. Also, I didn't take the grill off the stern rail and the wind pivoted it sideways on the pivot nut. I took the cover off, straightened the grill and replaced the cover without tightening the draw string. Yesterday afternoon, I came back to the boat and found that the fresh breeze we had in the afternoon blew the grill cover off and now it's probably lost on the bottom. :banghead::banghead::banghead:
