Macgregor 76 V-25 #928 Lake Mead, Nevada
we bought our used Venture 21, (our first) in 1970. The one in the picture looks like it. Don't know much about current prices but it seems reasonable depending on how much equipment is on it. (number/type of sails, winches, condition of rigging, interior, etc.) They are great fun to sail and pretty forgiving, self righting and comfy for up to 4 people. easy to launch and retrieve. Sold it in 1972 and bought a venture 222. Sold that in 76 and bought a venture 25 fully masthead rigged with oversized 525 sq ft spinnaker. Towed as far south as Ensenada, Mexico and north to British Columbia. Dropped anchor in Catalina every year for a week. Now live in Nevada near Lake Mead. Feel Sorry for lake locked boaters. You can take this anywhere. Good luck and fair winds.

looks to me like a venture????

While at first glance it could be a Venture 21, it could also be a Venture 17. It is difficult to see the keel which would help identify the boat. The foreshortening caused by the camera angle, makes it difficult to see the ratio of the cabin to the cockpit and the window to the cabin, other ways to identify the boat

Also there are a couple of daysailers that it could be.

Before you do anything I would recommend that you get more pictures and information on the boat. If you would like post he pictures to the forum, there are a lot of V-21 owners who can help you with the identification.

You may also asked for the serial number. Those Ventures manufactured prior to the federal law will have a serial number drilled into the stringer under the cockpit. Whichever serial number, it will help with the identification of the year of manufacturer, ie identification of the boat.

On the Venture 21, I think it sits a little higher on the trailer because part of the keel is below the bottom of the boat even when its retracted?

Don't know about the 17. Ive always like the looks of both of those boats and I guess both sail nicely.

Thanks for the responses!

There were two version of the keel on the V-21. Both had a draft of 5'6" with the keel down. With the keel retracted the pre 1970 boats had an 18" draft. There was some of the keel protruding into the cabin. The post 1970 boats had a 12" draft. About half of the keel was in the cabin and the other half below the boat.

The V-17's had a keel similar to the pre 1970 V-21.

The V-21 is an easy boat to sail, but will take more wind than you probably are willing to go out in.
