I'm wondering if there is a market for the improved rudder design for 88-95 Macs, especially the 88-89 dagger board models. I recently purchased one of these boats and experienced the insane weather helm and uncontrollable rounding up experiences produced in gusty weather. Since then I have created the new and improved rudder as specified by others, with a modified axis rotation, leading edge and longer design, which makes the boat a joy to sail now in stronger weather. In the process of doing this I never found a commercially available source for this rudder, which I probably would have gladly purchased instead of spending so much time making one.I'm wondering if I decided to have these produced commercially at a consistent and professional level of quality and finish, if there would be a market willing to purchase them at a reasonable price? If so, what do you consider to be reasonable? I guess based upon materials you would have to buy yourself, and the time invested in trying to make one correctly. Are there enough people out there who would make the investment in a better rudder if it was as easy as simply ordering one, and replacing the old rudder with the new one? I heard somewhere MacGregor has sold 38,000 macs? Materials could be from good old white oak, to UHMW platic, which seems to be a great rudder material since it is indisctructable and doesn't float.Comments?
