More Information

I am going to sail from North Miami Beach to the Florida Keys. I plan to stay close to the shore.

perfectly fine

Considering the great distances that Philip and Sharon Merlier have traveled in their wing (I believe) keel Catalina 22, a vessel very comparable to yours, I am sure you should have few issues. Further, the Merliers are planning to sail their Catalina 22 from Florida to the Bahamas this year. So your trip down along the coast is quite doable in a Capri 22.

Thank you for your reasurance.

Thanks, I know its a good boat, but didn't know how good. I also want to take it across to the Bahamas in the far future. This is going to be a test run.

Pray for good weather

I love my C22. It is a great lake and bay boat. If you take it far offshore you better be well prepared and have good weather. Not to burst the balloon but a C22 is not an offshore cruiser. Sure some people may do it but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. My two cents.

Go for it --Check the weather

I just bought a Capri 22. I had to motor up a bay in 20 knot breeze with three foot chop. the waves were close together. I pounded pretty bad in the waves coming dead on. Sailing off the wind she was moving and seemed very safe. Might want to get some charts or cruising guide to Keys. So you know where you can duck in. You should be able to go in at Anglefish Creek or Ceasar Creek.(check the depth and if its low tide) Worst case you can come about and sail with the wind. I heard once a guy sailed a capri 18 to Hawaii from California.
