Is standard garage door tall enough for c22 on trailer

Hi,

Will the C22 on a trailer fit through a standard garage door?

I went and looked at a C22 this weekend. I'm purchasing it as a project and hope to work on it over the winter in the comfort of my garage. The interior of the garage/shop is plenty high, long and wide enough for both the boat and trailer.

However, when looking at the boat (it's about 1hr away), I forgot to measure the height... :(

Thinking back to my visit to the boat, I'm almost certain it will NOT clear...

tricky question. Wouldn't fit in my garage. Although it did fit under my dads but honestly I'm not sure if my dads is a little tall.

Will definitely have to take mast off btw.

Sorry but no way. A standard door is about 7 feet tall x 8 wide, maybe less with trim.
( in my garage a moot question as too much junk regardless of doors.) Still the 22 is a great boat and you'll have more room to work outside and can bring the smaller projects inside.
Good luck with it. Let us know how you make out.

Thx. Kinda what I expected - just being overly optimistic :)

As you suggested, I'll just bring the projects inside and wait till spring for the hull/trailer projects.

Pretty sure I'll fall short of whatcaneyedo's fantastic thread on his restoration, but I'll try to post some pics along the way if I move forward on the purchase.

My garage door is 8 feet wide and 8 feet tall, My C22 fits inside. There are pics in my Resto thread. Worst case you may have to remove the bow pulpit and stern rail. It would be a pain but you could also unbolt the axle leaf springs and lash the axle to the frame which may give you more inches.

Well... now I'm just gonna HAVE to buy the boat so I can solve this mystery... :)

I was (and am) hopeful that if I remove the bow and stern rails, and maybe take some air of of tires (or set trailer on axle as suggested) it will fit.

I post updates - hope to secure the deal tomorrow.

measure your door. 8ft is standard my old one was 7 and I had to special order it. Anyway 8ft is the standard height inside a home garages typically are a foot or so below the height of the floor in the house and the ceiling is the same height. The grage door takes up about a foot for the header so in the end the average garage door is about 8'.

Yup. It's called "project creep" when one project develops into many more. I added one foot to my garage door and raised the opening by a like amount. it's worth it however, to be inside out of the weather, and in a heated space. it sure makes the winter a lot shorter.

I too got my C22 into my 8 foot high garage door. I do not think it would make it in a 7 foot high door.

see there now that's some creative thiking I like that.

Like to add since your boat is basically a seasaw on the trailer you can raise the tongue to lower the stern then lower the tongue to the ground and skid it in. Only thing at that point you gotta clear is the poptop.

Or how bought just digging two trenches for the wheels to go into the garage. :) Your wife will ok that wont she?

I just walked out and measured my boat on the trailer. It's only about 7' 1" to the top of the sliding hatch.

Well - were about to find out - cuz I brought her home today... I have a 7ft door (but I think with some creativity I'll be able to get it in the garage (which opens up a LOT.

Have someone lay a long 2x4 on edge across the aft end of the cabin top and drop a tape measure to see if you are 7 ft there. Taking off the bow pulpit and stern rail would be easiest, but the aft end of the cabin isn't much lower that the stern rail. You might get more bang for you buck taking the trailer wheels off like mentioned above. I hope you don't have a slope on your driveway leading to the garage, could cause bottom out. Good luck.

I'll bet it goes in there fine! The seesaw effect Allen mentioned should hopefully eliminate the necessity to remove pulpits. The rims might have to come off, and/or removing the pop top would gain you some room.

yah forgot about that pop top comes off with just a few screws that will get ya 4 or more inches anyway.

FYI - the answer is "YES"... barely. ;)

I had to remove the air from the tires, remove the pop top and even the 1/2 inch trim molding (leaning on the garage), but I got it in!

There's no ceiling inside, so now that she's in, I've got headroom up to the roofline.
