I'd like to know if some sections of the H27 hull is normal to flex easily?
When I say flex, I mean similar to an oil can. Press inward, release, pops back out.
During haulout of my 1978 H27 a few days ago, one of the yard mechanics called my attention to what seemed to be excessive flexing of one small section of the hull.
This section, about a foot forward of the raw water inlet screen, and 4 - 5 inches toward the toe rail. (about midway between keel line and toe rail). Using strong finger pressure, flexing about a quarter of an inch at the center, and about a foot across.
All other sections of the hull seem pretty solid to finger pressure.
The suggestion they made is that I could add some sort of internal reinforcement, possibly a 2 x 4 glassed in and shaped to fit the curvature of the hull, at that point, since there doesn't seem to be a bulkhead at that point.
Does this sort of flexing pose a problem for the H27, or possible is it normal to have such a section? I have owned the boat over 10 years, and the PO was my son and noone had ever pointed out this section with the flexing.
Inside the boat, the location of the area in question seems to be underneath the preformed base of the galley storage closet (2 doors), beneath the 2 burner stove.
There is no close ease of access without some sort of major cut and expose. I do not know if this flexing is a new issue, or if it has been there since day 1 (1978).
Thanks,
Robert
