Is silicone spray OK on jib luff and main slugs?

I've been looking at the archives about lubricating the jib luff so it slides up the furler easier but I'm not sure yet. I have some Silicon spray from an automotive store. Is this OK to use? I thought I'd also spray it on the slugs on the main. ...RickM...

Luff Lubricant

Try a product called McLube-Sail Kote. It's available at most chandlerys. It will not leave any residue and will lubricate your luff tape and luff slides. Sprays right on and will not hurt sails or aluminum, it was developed for sailboats.

McLube - spray or brush-on?

My local store has it in stock! I didn't know it came in brush-on as well. An on-line chandlery only shows the spray. Which should I get? ...RickM...

dry spray

I just purchased some dry lube in a large spary can from Lowes, likely Home Depot or any hardware store has the same for around $5. It works great. Do not use any lube that will pick up dust.

Same Here

I was told by an experienced sailor that any silicone aerosol spray will work on the main slugs. The stuff sold in West Marine is overpriced. Go to an auto parts store and buy it there. I used it last season and had outstanding results. The main goes up and comes down like a dream on my '94 23.5. I give the slugs a shot a number of times a year. Silicone spray does not attract dust and dirt. I can't speak for the jib luff as I do not have a roller furler.
