Photos help..

My C27 had a old depth finder that worked but was not readable due to age. I looked for a new display but after considering cost of a display vs new I Replaced it with a fishfinder that shoot thru the hull, very nice.

On my C30 I installed a new depth sounder in a pile of toilet wax under the v berth. Works well. Removed the old transducer and sealed the old hole last haul out. Pulled all the old instruments and capped the hole on the forward bulkhead of the cockpit.

Look at it as a good excuse to get a chart plotter depth sounder combo.

I had the same predicament when we bought our C 30.
The depth sounder crapped out. You can have older 4" round type units such as Datamarine repaired by marine electronic shops, or you can by them new for about $250-$300. for the readout. But you can also buy the small puck size sounders for only around a hundred bucks from West Marine, etc. or online.
I also went with the option of a new chart plotter & sounder combo unit, as the money spent tackles 2 birds with 1 stone. The Garmin 440s that I have is a great 4" chart plotter unit for around $400. & an extra $100 buys the sounder unit that is plug & play, sounds through the hull, so requires no drilling or permanent fitting of the transducer, like the older models. For the money, its hard to beat & us a good investment for the boat, for the day that you go to sell it, & I think a GPS unit is really a necessary piece of hardware for safety. My 2 cents.

You have different options, depending on how much you want to spend. Depending on the transducer, it's possible you can buy a simple Hummingbird* for around $100 and hook it up to your existing transducer. (Did this one our first boat and it worked fine).

Alternatively you can spend more for better integration better features.

* No, I don't know why Staples is selling depth sounders.

Check withthe mfg.

I called Signet and they recommended that I send the head unit to them and they checked it out and called me with a price to do the repairs. It turned out is was a circuit board in the head unit and they repaired it for under $100 + shipping. All you have to loose is the shipping to CA. Might be worth a try.
