Is it worth Rebuilding a Head?

I have the original PAR head that came on my 88 C-30. The gaskets are dry and worn that makes the plunger one tough job to move up and down. From past experience removing that portion and rebuilding with new gaskets is a messy job. With gasket kits going for $50, I have to question whether buying a replacement for $100 more is worth it. Has anyone replaced the PAR manual flush head with a similar unit without having to perform retrofitting? Can anyone recommend a manual unit that will not cost a fortune that fits and performs well? I know many of you may recommend electrical or vacuum units, but actually, I find that the manual works just fine. Thanks Bob

Replace

Hi Bob - I went through the same thing - bought a rebuild kit for my old head. Then I got into the job and quickly decided it wasn't worth it. I unbolted the toilet and disposed of it and replaced it with a cheap Jabsco. Some (our own esteemed Peggie Hall for one) would argue it would be best to buy a better quality head, but I've been pleased with both Jabsco heads I've purchased for two different boats. Best of luck, Trevor

Replaced the pump assembly

I bought a complete pump assembly from Stoll $40.00. Easy repair. Toilet works great. Tom

About the replacement...

I also want to replace the head in my newly acquired 1981 Cat 30. I would like to know if the new Jabsco manual head fits the same bolt holes as the original Par one. I have an opportunity to buy the Jabsco head wholesale and would like to go for it provided its an easy match to the old one. Thanks. -Rob

Go New

Replaced mine with a new head and with no trouble. There is lots of room for play so the holes should line up with no problem.

Was the Jabsco a perfect fit?

I am convinced that a replacement head is the way to go, but does the Jabsco fit perfectly in the same mounting holes as the older PAR? That is certainly critical.......... Thanks for the feedback Bob
