my 2¢

If it floats and isn't toxic, it's probably worth fixing up. Does it have any standing/running rigging? If it has a viable rig and floats it could be the best long-term satisfaction fix you've ever had. I wouldn't even think about making money down the road though. I think the labor, nickels and dimes and opportunity cost will eat up anything you eventually sell it for. I'm also unaware of anywhere you can get a boat and pay on it whenever you have the time and money. looks like a win to me.

Glad you didn't buy a bunch of 240 parts for it. That one wasn't free....you understand that right? She's one step from the crusher but with a major dose of Stamina and a bunch of cash you'll have a fun boat to build a lifetime of memories. Welcome to sailing.......next season. Now get to work;)

Seriously though, check the decks for soft spots before going too far and walk away if they are spongy or squirt water. The hull may have damage if it filled with water while up on blocks/jacks. If the rig and sails are missing be prepared for some SERIOUS sticker shock. A truck, trailer, outboard and bimini are also big purchases that you shouldn't cut corners on. Then there's the dock fees and insurance. On the up side once you whack the kids college fund you'll be all set....

Don't jump too quickly without checking a few nearby marinas for owners with boats for sale that won't consume so much of your life/cash before you can even use it.

"FREE" in this case is a loaded word. You may want to reconsider your options??????????

Did you get sails? motor?

If no! You can find a boat with this stuff for less than this is going to cost you.

Check with the trailer group called the CFYC (central fl Yacht club) www.cfyc.com A few of those guys may live near you, may own bucaneers and have a great group to team up with. We've sailed up in Central fl with those guys and they're super friendly. Good luck and don't get bogged down in the minutia. make sure the sails are really useful too. Rotten rigging and sails can look fine at first but fall apart under pressure. Just check it out and let the money and sweat flow;)
Hope it all goes well. Mike

PS please get a serious anchor and line. Don't skimp on safety gear like PFDs and a radio
