I went to look at the aforemeantioned Hunter 22 for $700.00. Yep, it is rough. According to the guy who owns the storage facility, it hasn't moved for 20 years, hence the last registration in 1983. The other fellow who wrote in about this boat should have asked to see the 'rest' of the items included. It came with a 'brand new' 1984 johnson seahorse sailmaster 8 h.p. motor, fuel tank, fenders, 3 sails, main, jib, spinnaker w/whisker pole, sail cover, stainless propane BBQ grill with mounting brackets, life jackets, port-a-potti, all boat cushions for the cabin, all running and standing rigging, winches, EVERYTHING!!! Well, almost. All were stashed in the guy's garage and in 'like new' condition. Not bad for $500.00. Like you guys stated...make him an offer. All I really wanted was the outboard and the grill. I think the boat will clean up and may be okay. The hull and deck seem fine. Just don't know if I want to haul it up to Canyon Lake to find out. May just part it out.

Sounds Like a Great Boat for Canyon Lake

For the price you paid and with a little work sounds like you can't go wrong. On the other hand you could drill some holes in the bottom plant it in a playground fill it with sand and the kids would really dig the "Pirate Ship" to play on.

A great project

The only people who will appreciate all your (future) work more than you is everyone on this site, for we appreciate the task and the challenge.

I'm Jealous

Looks like you have alot of fun work ahead of you. Looking forward to seeing the "after" pictures. San Antonio is home for me, went to Southwest Texas and we own property up at Canyon Lake up around Startzville. In fact my wife is in San Antonio right now. When you get it done if I bring the beer will you take me for a sail?

Thanks Rick & Bill !!!!

I am a little bit overwhelmed by this project. But, I think that it's really not as far gone as it looks. A clean up will go a long way. I just hope there's nothing wtructurally wrong, and I doubt it as this thing was apparantly only sailed one season. Rick...I went to S.W.T. as well and S.A. is my home. What part of town did you grow up in and where did you go to High School. What year(s)??? My # is 210-849-2208. Holler at me sometime!

been there

I bought a 1983 hunter 22 back in April for a few hundred dollars more than that, and it was the best money I ever spent. My family and I spent the summer cruising the intercoastal waterway, locally here around Corpus christi. I did alot of work on it though, the guy I bought it from had it four years and did nothing to it, when I picked up the anchor and tosed it on to the pier it broke into 14 pieces. I redid all standing and running rigging, rewired everthing, and of course cleaned the heck out of it. This winter I am putting a new bottom on it, god I hope the bottom is ok. anyway my point is it is so worst it. By the just to let you know you can use J24 headsails they fit great and are usally easy to find in good shape and pretty inexpensive. Good luck let everyone know how it's coming along, and if you need any help, just let me know, canyon isn't that far.
