I recently obtained (bought on impulse) an older (1975) Catalina 22 at a price I couldn't refuse.
There's a dished in area on the starboard side of the hull at the center trailer bunk support stantion. It's dished in about 1" over an area extending 24" fore to aft and about 12" up and down. There's what appears to be an epoxy repair inside the hull at the same spot.
I haven't had an opportunity to get the boat off the trailer to make a further examination but it looks like it's damage from bouncing on the trailer.

Can this be repaired? If so, how? I'm reluctant to use Bondo. The surrounding area seems solid.

Thanx,

Tom G

Yes it's repairable. Learn how to do fiberglass.

If you are talking about a soft spot, about 3 layers of fiberglass should do it on the inside. I use West Systems.

Sounds like an improperly placed bunk....I would bet it will pop-out after the pressure is relieved, but there might be some gel-coat cracking. I would never use Bondo to repair a boat, especially if the repaired section will be under water. From what I've read about fiberglass repair, they say Bondo will/can/might, absorb water. I've been a big fan of WEST epoxy products for a long, long time, and have never been unhappy with the results. Nice thing about fiberglass is that anything can be repaired, it's just a matter of how much time and money you have. But if you have to hire a professional to repair a vintage 1975 C-22, well.....let's just say I wouldn't. Take a look at the WEST epoxy web site. There is GOB's of information on properly repairing fiberglass boat issues. And it's really not as difficult as it appears to be. These guys have taken the mystery out of fiberglass repair.

Some photo's would help, and good luck!

Thanx Guys! I'll post some pix when I get home. I can't see if there's a crack on the outside until I get the boat off the trailer. There's a heavy coat of paint on the bottom.

Bondo is not waterproof.
But Dyna-Glass is, its a fiberglass mixture you mix like bondo, but its for filling not re-enforcing.
Like others said fiberglass/epoxy is the best solution.
