After buying a new Catalina from a dealer almost two years ago I have never been contacted by Catalina for a satisfaction feed back or anything. I have e mailed them using their e mail address from the web page about 5 times trying to give them "feed back" about our "experiences" and the issues we have had, but have never received a response. Is this normal for Catalina? Or indeed is this normal for all manufacturers after they have sold a boat?

Catalina is notorious for "not doing" email. They're busy building boats, and for the last two years or so have been busy moving their production from California to Florida. I'm sure they'd love to hear from you. Seriously. In these days of "instant gratification" OOPS "instant electronic communication" we sometimes lose sight of some basics: snail mail. Write Frank & Gerry a nice letter, put it in an envelope, stamp it and mail it.

Why do Catalina provide a e mail address on their web page if they prefer us to wright a letter? No reply to sensible, detailed e mails from another country on the other side of the world in 21 months Stu is hardly instant. In this case e mail is plain and simply makes sence. The "instant gratification" thing is a bit desperate and hardly valid for a modern progressive company in competitive times. If they took the snail mail approach to boat building, the yachts would be made from balsa or bamboo. They of course dont do that. However, as you say there is only one other option failing actually visiting them. (I might actually try to do that) Thanks for the reply .Appreciated.

I really do not know. But every once in a while, in life, that little thing called reality hits us.

I don't work for them. I'm just reporting the reality that contacts over the years with Catalina have reported, and not just me. I've had Catalinas since 1983 - I'm just fine with their responses as they have reported to me, except for these recurring questions.

Gazillions of people "do" Facebook. I have an account, but rarely "go there" 'cuz I'm here and on a few other boards.

Given that, if I was building boats, I'd put my bet on doing that. Frank consistently has built a reputation for customer service, but  he's 80 blloomin' years old and maybe he doesn't type.

Yeah, maybe they should hire someone to do their email.

Why not write 'em a letter and suggest it?

Quite the Contrary

How many companies can you call and be connected to the president of the company.
I have met Frank Butler and his great wife, Sharon Day and Gerry Douglas at rendezvous on the east coast and even ate dinner with the Butlers during the parties.
They are very sensitive to the opinions and ideas of their loyal customer base.
