I recently aquired a 9.9hp Evinrude longshaft, electric start model that needed repairs. I'm done fixing it up and not it runs like a champ. I currently have a 8hp on my H22 now and i am considering putting the 9.9 on it now, my question is it to much HP for the mount and my H22?

Should work

That should work as long as the transom and motor mount will take the exra weight. Our friends have a Catalina 22 and have a 10 hp Honda on it. Are you going to get rid of the 8 hp? If you are what is it? Rob Morton S/V Euphoria

Its an Evinrude

1986, rebuilt lower gearcase, new impeller. It was a longshaft. I converted it to short shaft to power my dingy.

Yes, too heavy.

It can be done and is done but does not mean is recommended.

I agree

with Benny. 6 - 8 HP should be enough. You didn't say whether the 9.9 is a 4 or 2 cycle. In any case, if you do opt for a 9.9, as Rob said, check the transom and mount to make sure they can handle the weight. This is especially if it is a 4 cycle.
