I have heard a lot of talk about this storm not being as bad as Isabelle. I believe that this storm was as bad as Isabelle, it was just a different kind of storm.
During Isabelle most of the boats came out okay and there was little damage. Irene did wide spread damage at my marina. Most of the boats had some kind of damage from this storm. One boat sunk.
This storm may have caught some people unprepared. Others may have not had the time to be able to take the proper precautions. Then there are those of us who took preps and still bared the brunt of some damage.
Some of the people at my marina really came through and helped others out. This morning there was a real community feeling around the docks as there were a lot of people wandering around trying to help out. It is really nice to belong to a community that still takes care of each other. Look around at the "normal" world and you will see most people are too busy to lend the other person a hand when they need it. In the marine community there are those people out there that will jump into the water during the middle of a hurricane to swim a line to pile on to tie off a boat in jeopardy.
