Hunter 240 Lake Conroe
I would like to formally introduce myself. I am Henry and a new proud owner of a 2000 Hunter 240. She appears to be in great shape. Sharing a picture of her to introduce True North to you. ASA certified last August and now have something to apply the things learned. Will do inland lake sailing and have her wet most of the year at a marina. Looking forward to time with all of you and sharing experiences with you! Thanks!

Welcome- you will love the 240. Had one for 10 years before moving up to a 260. Plenty of good advice here, so feel free to share your adventures!

Thanks cavern and Chris. Just figured out the keel line will have to be replaced before the keel can be used. Previous owner sailed the boat without the keel down. That means I will learn how to take down the mast down and put it on a trailer a little sooner than I had hoped. Exploring how to get it off the trailer at the house to access the keel to replace the rope!

Welcome Henry and congratulations on your new boat! You’ll love it. I’ve had my 2001 for 12 years now and have learned a lot from the good folks here on this forum. Enjoy!

Welcome to sailing and to this forum, Henry!

This is one of the better videos on removing a boat from a trailer:
It's a powerboat in the video, but it's around the size and weight of your boat so I think the same method would work. Caveat: I haven't actually done this myself. I discovered the video when I thought I might have to do it on my boat, but I didn't end up having to.

Speaking of which, are you certain that you need to drop the keel to replace the line? You should send a private message to @Crazy Dave Condon . He used to be a Hunter dealer and may know a lot about the job you need to do.

is the center board down in the slip? If its the line, board should be down. To raise it if rope is broken run a line under and walk it back. It will catch on the center board and raise it as you pull back. On a previous boat I had the center board line break (not a hunter) I sailed it for a few months since he board was down before replacing it.

No, the centerboard is in the up position in the slip. Just signed today with a sailing club that has a hoist, jack stand, wet slip, ramp and a great community of lake sailors. Moving the boat over next weekend and will have the facilities needed to pull her out of the water to fix the line to the keel and do a bottom job! Wonderful group of people at the club!
