West Wight Potter Potter 14 My driveway
Hello! Katie here.

I've been looking for a good spot to do some fiddling and tweaking, and this looks as good as any. Just looking to work out the finer points of posting in a new-to-me forum.

The basics: I live in not-as-sunny-as-y'all-think California, in the SF Bay area. I sail a yellow West Wight Potter 14, and I am usually spotted waaaay back behind the Potter Pod, sails reefed, looking about as yellow as my boat. :D I'm getting better, though. At least I'm not turning to jelly at the thought of our annual regatta coming up next month. I need a few more good romps on a mild day to get my confidence back up. Funny thing, it's heeling and waves that bother me, not so much the wind. Maybe if I tie a 100lb lead ball to my centerboard, I'll be OK.

I have a couple other interests, too. I have a back yard full of carnivorous plants, plus a few orchids in a teensy greenhouse. Assorted pets, including an albino corn snake, a dog, a bearded dragon, five tarantulas, and six species of tropical cockroaches. Last year I started flying remote controlled sailplanes, and having a blast in the fledgling class at the local contests (they're gonna kick me out of fledgling soon, an into the next group up). I am also a plus-level square dancer. Though I may be a bit rusty, that won't stop me from jumping into a square and having a blast. I star on a local TV show called Square Dance Live, which can be found online. Don't expect anything fancy, just fun times. I drive a 1979 FIAT 131 Brava, and I occasionally tow my Potter with it. yes, it can haul out, too. We participate in tours with the FIAT America club, and occasional autocross events. It's a blast!

That's pretty much me in a bilge scoop. Glad to (finally) log in and say hi!

Let's see if I can drum up a picture, and get it to work.

There ya go!

Here, have another.

A 76 West Wight Potter, about as patient a boat you can ever find. I've never had any trouble from her. Well, except that one time when the jib sheet kept getting hooked on the mast, and the other time I got the centerboard wound around some kelp, but that's not the boat's fault. Skipper error.

The FIAT:

The club wouldn't believe that this thing really can tow. The annual picnic that year was held in Foster City, a sort-of little Venice with a small lagoon and numerous waterways. While the boys were setting up the BBQs, we snuck around the back way, launched the boat, and stashed the trailer. Dory, my dear husband, drove in, and I sailed in. When it came time to leave, Dory fetched the little FIAT, and we astounded all by successfully hauling out with the little grocery getter. There isn't much this car can't do! (As long as it's under 100 mph, that is.) ;)
