Interpreting "State issued MIC" boat model and year

I just purchased what I think is a C-22. The PO told me it is a 1973 model. The title states it is a 1976 MK CAT. I can't find anythiing like an MK CAT in the Catalina forums. The HIN is NCZ34341I476. All of the info I can find indicates that the HIN should start with a CTY prefix. I searched the data bases and find the HIN is a NC State issued HIN and is listed as a "North Carolina Homemade Boats" manufacturer.
Anyone have any clues on what this means and what year and model my new boat is???

I think I figured it out. There is a Hull number on the starboard stern that has been painted over so many times it is barely readable. I used the old "gravestone tracing" trick and it comes up CTY H6303M76 so iit's a 1976 not a 1973.

I don't know what the H stands for (unless it means Hull) but the plate on the inboard side of the transom says it is a Catalina Serial Nbr. 6303.
I called our state's Wildlife Resources (they assign titles) and found that the boat was retitled in 1981 when one of the POs probably lost the original title. That was before the NC Wildlife Resources Commission had any kind of real database to register boats so they assigned it a new number with the NCZ prefix.

I still don't know if it ian MKII or not. I'm still researching that.

Does anyone know the difference between and MKII and a plain ol' C-22?

What you have is a early style boat built from 1970-1985 From mid 1985 to 1994 there was the "new style" from 1995 to present there is the MK II. You can go to the Catalina 22 National site and find the list on the year models.

There is a huge difference between your boat and the MK II in length, width, layout. The MK is a much bigger boat... You can see a picture on the Catalina website.

The 6303 plate number you found in the cockpit is the sail number, it is displayed on the mainsail as well.

The H stands for the model ie C22
