Good project
Hi Lauraine -My outhaul was completely useless until I rebuilt it using ball bearing blocks. The hardest part is getting the eight screws off to remove the end caps. I managed to get them off with a hammer and screw driver. I installed ball bearing sheaves at either end of the boom and upsized the internal wire (without the plastic coating that will eventually crack and bind in the sheaves). A double and a triple block inside will increase the purchase to 6:1. Lead it back to the cockpit through a rope clutch or leave the control line hanging on the boom. It's easy to adjust, even while close-hauled. You'll enjoy sailing more with the added control.Best,Trevor
