I am going to get new haylards for my Hunter 22. What is the best way to run the haylards through the mast?

Are the old halyards internal?

If they are, just connect the new one to the bitter end of the old one. Then pull the old halyard from the shackle end. As it goes up the mast and over the sheave at the masthead it will pull the new halyard behind. The procedures for connecting the old and new halyards together and securing the old shackle to the new halyard were discussed a couple of weeks ago. Try the forum archives under "new halyards" for more details and feel free to ask additional questions as needed. Good luck. Peter H23 "Raven"

Splice

You can splice the two lines together with a Short Splice. This will join the new line together with the old line and make it one line. Then you can just run the old line out of the mast with the new line taking it's place. If you don't know how to to make a Short Splice, there are many knot books that will show you (it's very easy).
