Interiour for cruising

Hi all,
I would like to start a discussion about optimization of the Vega
interior layout for long time cruising. Is there any interest??
I`m new in the Vega family. I sailed a Shark 24 for a several years
and did some cruising with it (beside of racing). I bought Vega 1992
in Oct. 2001 in Germany and did some major refit of the interior.
I`m now thinking about a cooler box which minimizes the need of
battery power and about a better organization of the pantry.
I have some photos ready showing the actual status of the work done,
but I think it`s better to ask the group first if there is any
interest on this topic before dumping it to your server space.

If you find that my English sounds funny great! But don`t blame me,
I`m German!!
Regards
Lueder

Jorge, I do agree with the food and I do very much agree with the
beer ... which infact is staple food in Germany!!
My idea about saving battery power: use shore power to put as much
chill into a sort of accumulator and build a box with extremely good
insulation (-Startseite - va-Q-tec seems to offer state of the art
technology). The chill stored should last for 3 4 days until we
have access to shore power again. When the engine is running, the
compressor will run as well of course.
Anybody able to calculate the "size" of the accumulator?? My average
beer consumption is 2- 3 cans per day (my wife doesn`t like beer
which makes things much easier!!)
The chill accumulators offered at the market all seem to small
(Isotherm, Waeco).
I`m thinking of using a battery of normal "chill accus", those you
put in your freezer at home, cool them down and put them into a
portable cooling box for picnic.

Hi Lueder

Your Englaish is better than my german!!

It sounds a great idea. If you want to send some photos to me I can add
them to
the Vega CD. My address is steve@... but only put a couple of
email
photos on each message. Please make the photos JPG format and not too large.
There are many various changes that people have made to their Vegas and I am
sure we will all be very interested in your ideas and commenst.

Good morning Lueder and group,
I think there are more people contemplating doing a rebuild or refurbish on
the interior. The fact that you can -relatively- easily take it out (screws)
makes this more feasible. Any images would be welcome, the photos section of
the Yahoo! Site is crammed (can somebody remove the Albin Cumulus \'28?) but
there is loads of space left in the files section.
Best regards,

Lueder--your English is fine--my German is not so fine -but my Danish is ok. If you are going cruising think of buying most food dried or canned or preserved then you will need very little cooler space. There is food available now that is very practical regarding keeping fresh for longer periods. Mostly coolers are for beer!!!! If you are building a fixed cooler into a space in the boat-styrofoam insulation pink color is very efficient and can be cut and glued to fit many shapes. This will make a good place to have your cooler placed. jorgen

Hi Lauder--one suggestion is to use fresh drinking water in 4 liter plastic milk jugs-washed several times-leave 1/2 liter air space for expansion when freezing--freeze with bottles on their sides. This is very efficient as the water is usable to drink as it melts but will be cold--good. This will lessen the capacity of your fridge. When I sail I use this method as I also drink water and use water for tea etc. My friend with a 36 foot CS sailboat has the freezer gel pack in between the freezer and fridge and his is good for a few days. Water is good: there is lots of room for calories in frozen water. jorgen

Hi Lüder,
Starting this discussion has been an excellent idea, it might be a great
help for a lot of us.
I\'ve had a look at the pictures you uploaded and I can tell you that you\'ve
done a great job. This is an interior done by a skilled woodworker.
I myself took part of the interior apart last Saturday to repair a few
things. Your photos have given some excellent ideas. Did you remove the
lockers on the starboardside to make that bunk so wide? Do you think it can
sleep two now?
Kind regards,
Flor

Hello all!
I have Vega 1061 in Miami and have been following group postings for over a year. I contemplate either a refurbish for cruising or prompt sale. She is a sound boat with a strong Yanmar 18hp deisel and a short equipment list. Needs some standard upgrades, like window moldings and a wiring panel, also a bottom and mainsail. Mast step has been done, well. $6k firm. I have a recent survey at $7k(+).
Anyway, since quick sale of a boat is usually a pipe dream, I am interested in cruising mods.
MY QUESTION: How do I access the file/photo section?
