I have a 1990 Oceanis 350. I'm wanted to build some covers for the side compartments behind the settees so am trying to figure out what kind of wood is in the interior. I read somewhere that it was chestnut, but all the chestnut I see online seems to be darker and more grain and knots. Does anyone know the wood type or a suitable alternative to use that would match? Thanks!

Interior wood

In the newer Beneteaus the interior wood is Douka, a relative of mahogany.

All the info you ll need....

Bob, I would suggest you contact: Todd Cranford Beneteau Customer Service phone: 843-629-5320 fax: 843-629-5329 email: todd.cranford@beneteauusa.com Todd will send you all the info as to the type of wood, stain to be used and some suggestions as to where you can get these. Todd emailed (pdf) me several pages of info., they are very helpful at Beneteau USA. I can't say enough about their customer service. And yes the wood is in the mahogany family with a cherry stain. Trial and Error to match colour

Tough to get the exact match of wood. Therefore you will have to buy some test wood and play with stains and varnish. In my case I did not stain the wood. We mixed the stain with the varnish. If you go wrong you can sand off the varnish after it has dried. Very tough to get the stain out of the wood. Also, you may have to mix a combination of gloss and satin varnish to get the correct sheen. Not to difficult to do. Just keep good notes of your blends so you can repeat when you do the actual work. Have Fun!
