Hunter 34 Interior wood thickness???Bunks etc...

I recently aquired an '84 Hunter 34. The previous "madman" yanked any and all interior except the floor.(im guessing a toilet or watertank rupture) Now its my job to completely rebuild the interior. (i got it for a song and it floats!)
So first order of business is i need to know from some 34 owners out there what the thickness of the port and starboard setees are. (1/2", 3/4", etc..)
and the size of the plexiglass sliders in the cabin. I have one (portside) backrest (with the access holes) in the boat ...it measures 17" X like 75" long..its 1/2" thick plywood. From this I can get the other measurements from the sole up by looking at pics... I love the sleek shape of this boat. pics to come.

Funny, but I suspect the "previous madman" was probably a member of this forum and had taken someones ill advice. Just an observation as to how we befriend a member and then spit them out the other side.

Sounds as if you have your work cut out for the winter. Since most of the pieces have been removed it should allow you great access to inspect and replace critical items.

Keep the rest of us future madmen updated as to your progress.

I don't have those numbers, High.. Click on "Boat Info" then "Hunter Owner Modifications", then select the 34 .. You'll see some interesting ideas .. I think the cabinetry is 3/8, engine box, bulkheads, closets , etc.. The tops of the setees, vee berth, and aft cabin bunk, and the vertical backrest is 1/2..
Pay special attention to the mast compression post and the port lights.. Some of the members have done really fine restorations and modifications.. Search on user "Betzhunter" and a few other 34 owners to see what can be done.. I have owned mine since 1991 and I am still happy with her.. Good luck and Welcome Aboard!

Sounds like it may have been sunk. I had a friend once who owned a h34. The drain hose came off the bottom of the galley sink. The boat was in a fixed slip at the time . Fortunately the way the boat was tied up "at the stern" she sunk bow down . Draw a line from the bottom of the companion way just before engine bilge pan to the just above the deck at the bow. The insurance company totaled it and then let him have it back. Fortunately his was and older 82 or 84 were they still used real lumber. He was able to clean, disinfect the interior. Luckily because of the way she went down the engine and main electrical panel at nav panel was okay. But everything else had to go new cushions,120v outlets etc. With the newer boats not so lucky. Just getting water to the bottom of the cabin sole and she's toast. Warning!!! Folk's with the newer boats keep an eye out for any water leaks. If it rains into your main companion way or you have a shower leak pull up the teak and holly floor panels immediately and dry out the subfloor structure. The subfloor structure and and any bulk head panels that get wet will turn into a moldy mushy mess real fast. In my case it was and undetected shower leak.

Same as Kloudie said. The cabinet doors are 3/8ths veneered ply as is the top of the nav station desk. The sliders appear to be 3/16ths plexi.

The vertical bulkheads are half inch.

Most of the other furniture pieces are 3/8" (drawer frames, etc). Counter tops, engine lid, and shelf tops are apparently half inch as well.
