I need to do some sanding and re staining of some of my water damaged wood finish in my 1984 Hunter 31. Before I start sanding, anyone any idea what wood this is? I cannot believe it is real teak. Can one sand and then varnish to retain the original color, or does it have to be stained? Any info much appreciated

Unless you sand down the entire piece you will remove the patina from the sanded area and will need to try and match the unsanded wood with stain. Our 85 Hunter is mostly a rubbed oil finish. I use lemon oil to keep it looking fresh.

Wood is mostly a thin veneer over plywood.. Finish was stain/oiled .. Sanding is very risky because you can go through the veneer very easily. Best to clean and re-oil..

The interior wood is teak but like Kloudie mentioned it is veneer.

The finish is normally Daly's Seafin but it could have been redone with anything after all these years.
