try scrap first
Matching stain is usually tricky. With experience I've gotten luckier in matching the "almost red oak" interior of Windrose, our h40.My advise -- try the stain on a piece of scrap, coat it with your varnish (I'm using Minwax Polyurethane below decks out of direct sunlight) and compare it to what you want to match.Tidewater Marine in Harve de Grace MD carries a lot of Hunter original products. You might try them for specific product suggestions. Even if they tell you the specific stain, try it on a piece of scrap first. How long you let the stain penetrate, how heavily you apply it etc will all effect your match.Good luck.
