First, let me say that the people at Best Choice Fabrics are the best. The loverly 70's plaid upholstery has got to go. I have read that I should avoid material that includes cotton as it will mold/mildew and I've been trying to find a fabric that does not contain cotton but I REALLY like a material is 56% Cotton/44% Polyester. Has anyone out there used a fabric with high cotton content successfull? If so, did you treat the fabric to reduce mold/mildew? If so, with what. If it's a really bad idea to try to use this material I guess I'll have to go with my second choice. *cry

No water, no mildew

I know it's tough, but if you keep the boat interior dry, there will be less likelyhood of mildew. I don't see how cotton would be more succeptible to mildew than anything else. I keep cotton clothing stored inside my boat all the time and have never had mildew on any of it, ever.

Give a Sunbrella fabric a try

Don't be tempted by cotton. When it gets wet, it stays wet and it will mold and mildew on you. I got the look and feel of cotton with a Sunbrella 100% Acrylic fabric. Sunbrella makes an array of indoor/outdoor fabric in all kinds of prints, solids, textures and patterns. Sunbrella is actually a finish/fiber construction that is stain & water repellent. The gal that did my upholstery talked me out of cotton and now I'm really glad she did.

Stay away from cotton

I don't care how hard anyone tries to keep the interior dry, sooner or later it will get damp, then the mold and mildew will start. Use the Sunbrella material. When you choose it, make sure you choose the soft stuff. Yes, they come in different thickness, and resulting in stiffness. Use the thin and soft stuff, because they are a lot easier on your body.

I guess it'll be Option B then *cry

Thanks for your input. Option B it is. While it's not sunbrella it is 100% man-made polyester chenile. I couldn't find any sunbrella patterns that didn't look like something you'd find on patio furniture.
