I am in the process if completely doing the inside. The cabinets and drawers have some great little porcelain knobs with two nautical flags (one red one blue)on the them and a chrome ring around the edge. Does anyone know if they are original equipment or where I can purchase more. I need three.

no knobs

The cabinets on my hunter 30 ( 1980) have no knobs and not any evidence of any I'm guessing the were added later. They sound pretty cool!

Post Pictures!

I would just like to know if it was possible for you to post pictures. That way I could get a better idea as to how you renovate, so when we go through our boat, we might know a little more.

Knobs

My buddy has a 1976 hunter 27 that has those knobs. I think they are super nice looking. I always tell him they look bad and he needs to change them, and of course I would be glad to take them off his hands.

Have them on my 1978 H-27

They're on my old Hunter and I know they came with the boat....Kind of funky but neat all the same...

Rennovations Underway

Well we started by taking out all the drawers cabinet doors, bathroom doors, and setee door and they are being sanded and refinshed in the cellar. I have to replace part of the main interior bulkhead (chain plate ripped loose) , as the prior owner tried to fix it but must have used a hatchet in his efforts. I am replacing the motor and the boat is on stands in the yard so I dont have the benefit of a crane. The old one is coming out in two pieces but, I am taking out the companionway stairs and surrounding panels to be refinished and to make room to get the motor out. Fortunately the new one has the same footprint as the YSE 12, so the new install should be easy except for modifying the shaft and I hope that will be easy as well. The sails look okay but I think they are going out to be lemauried. Depth, wind and speed Instruments are up in the air. While I have everything out I am replacing all the tanks, installing a new raritan Sea-era, probably a new origo two burner, and replacing all the wiring. The yellow formica is history and I think we are going to replace it with a natural oak beadboard, with teak trim, drawers and doors. The countertop will be either solid surface or formica, probably formica because its tuff to buy solid surface if your not a licensed installer. I am fine with woodwork, so the labor is cheap, just beer! My mother in Law is going to make new cushions, pillows, drapes and shower curtain. I just pay for the fabric, and keep her in sewing wine. Anything else that needs to be replaced along the way will get careful consideration, and I can't thank the people on this board enough for the sage advice. Peggy I am still reading about vents! I know it sounds like a lot for an old boat, but even with all of the repairs I will still be under the low end of the blue book value, and have a pretty new old boat. Gee, I never thought about pictures, but I will now. Just gotta keep me and the camera from freezing now. J.C. II if you read this would you take a look at my other post about that bulkhead and the chainplate, I am looking for any and all advice. Its about a week or two old.

What engine did you decide to go with

My husband & I are in the process of finishing up the same projects that you are just starting. We painted the interior with alkyd enamel paint ala Don Casey. Very white interior now. We are going to get new foam for cushions and are looking for the "right" material for new covers. I'd love to use ultrasuede but I can't justify the expense. Have fun, it's a learning experience.

Boat engine

I was himming and hawing over the vetus 16 hp, but I think I am going to go with the vetus 26 instead, its only about $400.00 more, and still shaes the same footprint as the YSE12, so the only other modification will be the shaft

Porcelain knobs

Well I figured it out the little porcelain knobs with teh red and blue flags on them were original hunter equipment. I talked to Hunter and they confirmed it. The had hundreds of them on hand up unitl a year or so ago, and they threw them all away. Murphy's Law for Sailboats. Anyone want to sell three or four of them?
