I'll be adding mounting blocks, etc, to the inside of the boat. Any recommendations?

mounting blocks
Are these for trim, or through hulls?

There a couple of challenges.
  1. The color used in 1983 will have a faded patina. Even if you had the exact same original color code they would not look exactly the same
  2. lot colors vary through the years. Unless the original owner bought a sample of the original gel coat What was made in 1983 may not look the same in 2023.
Boat owners who try to match colors need to be painters. They need to have an eye for the subtle color components and do their best to match the colors by altering the tints. All bets are off if you are one of the selected with natural color blindness.:yikes:

Whats an owner to do?

Here are a couple of sites who try to help.
Or, some owners choose to use a wood trim and varnish. Very nautical look.

For mounting electronics (bus bars, course computer, inverter, etc) and other items to the inside of the hull. I also need to address a crack on the exterior of the cabin top.
Thanks for the reply.

All good points and references. I’d add a 2 part video on gelcoat matching that starts at

When I had my O'day 25 I took a plug of the cabin liner to Lowes. They scanned a color and mixed up a quart of trim paint for me.
I had a spot to touch up in the v berth on my 93 C30 so I tried the same can of paint. I couldn't tell where I had touched it up.
Sounds like you could do the same and except for the exterior latex paint would work well for your projects.
