We used alkyd enamel
I know, I spelt it wrong. Basically it's an oil based paint. Don Casey's book recommended it and we had a mildewcide(sp?)added. We did not get a high gloss, pretty sure we used satin. In the v-birth and bilges we used a regular old alkyd(interior oil based) white paint. We rolled and tipped and the results were pretty good. By the time we got to the main salon the original gallon was gone and a winter had passed. We couldn't remember what brand of paint we bought originally. For some reason we picked up a gallon of paint that was supposed to "hide" imperfections. The paint was very thick and when we tried to tip the brush strokes showed. So we just left it and the "stippled" look is very nice. It's not flat like the v-birth but sure does hide imperfections i.e. filled screw holed that we didn't do such a great job filling and fairing. All in all we are very happy with the results. Go for it!
