In preparation for moving the boat back to the slip I'm going to remove everything from the inside that's not nailed down and give it a good scrubbing .

I was thinking a mild bleach solution or something like Clorox cleanup (which I'm led to believe has no bleach in it). I'm sure there's mold but it's not 'moldy', a bit musty to be sure.

I'd like to leave it clean and white and fresh (the smell of lemons comes to mind for some reason).

Any suggestions on what to use?

Simple Green. Anywhere from full strength on a rag or diluted to your choice. I've used just about everything else over the years, this works great. Bleach down below while you're scrubbing ain't so good for your lungs.

...I pretty much clean everything not metal with 50/50 hot water and white vinegar with a VERY small amount of bleach and a dash of dishwashing liquid. Works great.

At the Seattle Boat Show this past January, I talked to the makers of BottomSiders (cushions for the cockpit) and asked them what should I use to clean those cushions. Two of their reps responded in unison, "Zcare". As I wander around the show, I find two other places recommending Zcare. So when I find the Zcare booth, I bought a spay bottle.

Well....I have now used it on a variety of places in my boat and extremely pleased with the results. I'm an old reitred academic so I like to test things so I sprayed one side of my salon table (the side that folds down) and didn't spay the other side. The side cleaned does look better--had a guest say so without knowing which side I had done.

By the way as an additional help, if you have a athletic club in your area that hands out towels, check in with them to see what they do with their old bath towels. I get about twenty five of them for a couple of bucks. Some are pretty ratty so I cut them up into smaller cleaning clothes. Great for cleaning the bilge and engine. Throw them out when you're done if you want.

Here is the web site of the Zcare company (I have no connection with this site or company). http://zcare-cleaners.com So far it has worked well on wood, plastic, fiberglass, stainless sink, cloth...and cushions.

Good luck on the cleaning.

Hey, Ken.. good to hear that you're getting ready to head out again! after lots of house work and other work..
Looking at the ingredients of the Clorox disinfecting wipes, they look like a fine candidate for general use after the real scrubbing is done.. They have disinfectants and alcohols but they also have some stuff that kills mold/mildew. The two Alkyl ingredients in the attached are the prime mold control agents in professional mold control.. and BONUS.. they have a lemon scent ! http://www.clorox.com/products/clorox-disinfecting-wipes/?gclid=CICwnZnhubcCFeNj7AodFz4AVg
