One year later I sailed my boat! Cruise ship chased us out the channel(pic). And there is Ed A at the helm. Nice breeze, around 8, had us at an easy 5 knots.
That was the good news. When Ed and Don brought the boat down from Port Richey they called about a water leak. There it was, water on the floor in front of the stove. Lots of water but only on port tack. After sailing awhile and with some sponging it seemed OK. Then we started the Yanmar and no water on starboard tack. But wait, why is there so much in the engine pan? It must be the packing. But how is it getting on the floor?
After much cussing and sweating(93 in the cabin) I got the stuffing box adjusted. Power up and watch the shaft and box close up. Barely a drop. Ed runs her up to 3000 and I am in front of engine and pan is filling up again. So is the floor on this port tack! Back into the engine room I go.
Well the story is already too long. After much more checking it was the muffler! The water would run over into the battery shelf and find its way to the fridge and down onto the floor on port tack. On starboard it would simply flow over the edge in front of the water heater and down into the engine pan. H37C owners will understand. So now it is off to find the right muffler(pic from when I was replacing engine, water heater out).
