On another thread, I answered to a query:"There used to be a rendezvous annually hosted by H&S which shut down a few years ago. It was at Isthmus in Catalina and at one time got 50-ish boats. Sailboats Unlimited had one last year in Marina del Rey. Those are pretty expensive for a broker to run and I can't see Hunter stepping up to subsidize them given today's economy. This was originally run by a couple of owners when it started but became too much for them to handle. Maybe we can start from the ground again. I'll give it some thought."
So, is there interest in an informal rendezvous of Hunters this year? Let's see what we get by way of responses.
1. Mid September weekend after most of the busy stuff?
2. No heavy lifting. BYOB, pot luck, etc.
3. No charge except for maybe a site rental?
4. Maybe in Catalina's Cat Harbor for mooring availability & anchoring ease?
Other location options might be:
A. Anchoring behind oil island White in front of the Long Beach Belmont Pier. There is a new dinghy dock at the pier and we could do dinghy raft ups for food & drink.
B. Hen Rock, Catalina Island, near Long Point. This would be similar to option A. Some moorings and good holding for anchoring. I didn't list the Isthmus due to mooring availability, etc.
C. Newport Beach anchorage. The complication here is someone has to be on the boat, but I imagine a dinghy raft up in the anchorage would comply with the spirit of the regulation.
D. Other?
5. Don't count on swag, speakers, etc. Might get some if enough participation, but wouldn't want to complicate this unsponsored event.

So, what do you think?

Sounds good. We used to go on 4 Hunter Rendevous's a year when we were in Seattle. Part of their success was that (unlike California) most of the NW marinas actually have real guest docks, where 15 to 20 boats could dock next to each other.

But I think it's worth exploring.

I know we would like any kind of get-to-gether!

We like meet and greets and as new Hunter owners would really like meeting others of our own kind.

Great idea!

Catalina would be the best place, preferably Cat Harbor or isthmus - you can now make reservations online in advance to make sure you get a mooring!

Happy Holidays!

We, Sailboats Unlimited, the Hunter Dealer based in Marina Del Rey, would love to be involved in helping make this happen. I have been reaching out to Hunter owners in the area for the purpose of breathing life back into a Hunter Owner's Association. We are tentatively planning a get together in our office on Jan 28th around 4 pm... there is a rumor there will be some beer, wine and cheese.

let me know if you are interested:

It would be great to start a Hunter round up. I have been to a few of the H&S's at the Isthmus. I will also be calling to offer any help necessary.

We would love to join the Rendezvous. We just got a Hunter 466 and it's in Marina del Rey. We vote for Isthmus or Cat Harbor. Will look for future info from the Forum or Sailboats Unlimited. Guess we were too late for the S/U meeting. "Harmony" would be glad to help with planning.

Save This Date & Location

Hello; here's the decision on date and location and a link to a companion thread. Mark your calendars for the weekend of September 22nd for a Hunter owner rendezvous in Cat Harbor, Catalina Island.

Figure we'll have a dinghy raft in the afternoon Friday and noon Saturday, then cocktails and pot luck hors d'oeuvres at four at the Cat Harbor facility by the dinghy dock and a bring your own meat BBQ at six.

We will also have some breakfast thing AM Sunday. We may have some speakers Saturday, but no guarantees; we'll see what develops as we get closer. We have had some broker interest as well. We may even have a well-known contributor
on these boards and a Hunter owner on our boat from way far from SoCal!

Costs will be minimal. Just the expense of the facility rental ($100) and any shared stuff for the BBQ. This is strictly an informal, owner-sponsored event. Here is the link for the other thread:http://forums.hunter.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=137136

Hope to see you there!

Anyone from the San Diego area going to join up? It is a bit of a clip for us but sounds great! We are new to the area and boat ownership so it would be nice to get to know other Hunter owners!

There was some interest expressed. However, it will be a while before people commit.

I will continue to check the thread to see if this comes about. I know our marina, Cabrillo Isle Marina, is planning a float to go up there sometime in Sept. Sounds like there could be some folks on the water that weekend.

This sounds fun... Count my family in as well. I'll be coming down from Ventura.
