Any Suggestions for Hull Insurance for Hunter 26. Has anyone shopped for the best rates and are there any companies to stay away from for poor claim service ?

Believe or not, good old Allstate (Marine Insurance) ended up with the best coverage/rates for me. But I'm sure that prices vary by area, etc.

Boat/U.S. for me!

I have my H33 insured through Boat/U.S. Good rates and quality service. They have a Web page at http://www.boatus.com if you are interested. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty

The Pier Group

When I bought both my Hunters the Pier Group had a deal going with Hunter Marine and offered insurance to new buyers. I bought it for the 280 a although I never had a claim, I was happy with the price. They are a good company to deal with, a human answers the phone, they call back when you have a question, their newsletter is well done. Every year I get a quote from US Boat and they are always higher. Now I own a 380 and got quotes from West marine, Pier Group, US Boat and my local insurance agent. Pier Group lowest again and with good coverage too! US Boat was $150 higher for virtually the same coverage. So The Pier Group remains my company, and thankfully I've still never had a claim with them. Best of luck with your search Bob Knott H380

We also went with BoatUS. Big thing in rates is area you sail in. We trailer to Great Lakes, Chesapeake, New England and this year Keys. If you ask for this coverage it is astronomical in price!!! Get coverage for your primary sailing area then call and get temporary coverage for times you are on the big water. We have inland waters and Great Lakes at a reasonable rate. Also have towing insurance. Remember any insurance is good if you never have to use it! The value is in the service. Last year extremely high winds hit our mooring area and our H26 broke loose. I called BoatUS and reported that our boat was loose and had washed into a shallow and was possibally damaged and I won't know the extent of damage until I pulled it out. They told me to call as soon as I found out the extent of the damage and get them a repair cost. Luckily the damage was less than $500. They handled the call very profesionally and were ready to act, I don't know how it would have went if I had a claim, but from what I've read and heard they are fast and fair.

Boat US ins.

We recently had a claim with Boat US. We couldn't have been treated with more respect and speed. Everyone we dealt with was extemely professional and caring.

Thanks for all the information, I contacted my local Allstate agent, and found that my coverage for everything with high limits was 201.00 per year. I also have my home and auto with allstate. Its great to have this group forum and it made a big factor in our choice for a Hunter.

State Farm

I have a 1998 h240 that is insured with State Farm. I have a complete package with towing coverage, coverage at my home port, motor, and coverage on the Great Lakes, etc. My annual premium is $158 per year. I have not had a claim and I hope to never have one. All of my service is local with my neighborhood agent. Very pleased with service.
