This is my last post today, promise.

I haven't insured my boat yet. Any recommendations?

Easiest route seems to be to get it throught Boat US.

My Columbia 24 was covered under my homeowners, it's worth checking, but their coverage stopped on boats over 26'. I use BoatU.S. for the Vega. It's inexpensive and they include for accidental pollution coverage, the homeowners didn't. They will want an out of water survey before issuing insurance. I think they are at boatusinsurance.com

Homeowners does not cover boats of 27 feet w/o special endorsement. Boats US is good. Critical to beware (the many) new entrants to yacht insurance, they often include non-standard exclusions from coverage.Nicholas H. Walsh P.A.

On my coronado 25 I used progressive. I wasn't interested in replacement - I just needed it for the marina. 300,000 coveragew cost me 47.00 per month

I also have progressive.
I read the actual policy which you must specifically request, and it was simple and had no tricky language.
I looked at a few other companies and their language was very tricky.

I might try Progressive, We dropped our insurance when we went to Mexico. We had a liability only policy at the time after Boat US dropped us for not providing an engine survey when I inquired about repowering from the old Albin Gas to the Yanmar. I explained to them that I hadn't repowered except that I was using a Nissan outboard in the interim. Can't think of any reason to get a survey if you change to an outboard. Never the less they dropped us. Cruising required a crew of three if going offshore.
We did find it for Mexico with a group called Vagabundos. Mostly for trailerboats being towed by RVs but the harbor masters never questioned it. I don't know wha they are requiring now.
Survey should be in a week or two and we'll see what they say then. Thanks for the input and anyone with any other thoughts please send them! Thanks, WaltTo: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com
