Salts,

I am in the pre-purchase phase of a Cat 30 (1991 MkII)....

In putting a budget together, what should I expect to pay annually for insurance? The marina mandates at least $500,000 liability.

When I was shopping for my 30, I called my insurance company (USAA), who referred me too Progressive. It was going to be about $175 per year for "standard" coverages. I forget the liability amounts and all, but I would be willing to bet that would about cover you.

It all depends

It is dependent upon value. I pay about $900.0 for a 36' boat.

A lot could depend on where you are. I have an '84 C30, we went through hurricane Ike last year with repairs at about 50% of boats value. Our marina requires $300k liability. I think we are paying about $1,000/yr. A few years ago we were paying about $800, I heard other C30's were paying $1,200, in a different marina. Maybe they were newer boats or higher liability. We have quite a few marinas in the area so liability requirements could be different. Hurricane Ike destroyed my pier, had to move to another marina and have since moved again. All three had same liability requirements.

I pay around 500.00/yr. but I'm in the water for 5 months.

I found prices ranging from $450.00 to $1,300 year. I went mid price point to get the coverage I was looking for.

We have the same boat.....

Hi,

I bought my Cat 30, '91 Mk II last November and insured it with Allstate in the NYC area. I have full coverage...250/500k, comprehensive fire and theft. I do have my home insurance and my 22 Chrysler as well but, I am paying $390/year for the Cat. I enjoy a discount for multiple policies along with discounts for anti-theft device and fire alarm.
