I live in Fla and just recently bought a 31' Hunter and have found the insurance rates for boats over 26' to be very pricey. Any suggestions?

Secondly, I need to replace the plastic exterior window trim pieces. Any suggestions where I can find replacements?

Maybe Consider A Higher Deductible

In my area many companies wiil give a standard quote based on a $250 or $500 deductible. If you go to say a $1000 deductible the discount in premium may be as much as 15-20%. A $2000 deductible could be as high as a 30% discount. Considering that you don't want to submit small claims anway the higher deductible may be something worth considering.

Good luck.

John: I believe that the SE Coast is still paying for all of those very destructive hurriances that you have had over the past decade.

BoatUS is insuraning a H31 for an agreed upon value of $30k on the west coast for approx $300/yr. After the first year they also pass along a discount for no claims.

Be sure that if you are getting a policy that is for an agreed upon value.

Coast guard auxillary

Look into coast guard auxiliary in the peace river they can save half the price,I would have done it my self but they only insure up to $100,000.
I now have progressive and had them in Ny but are paying more than double here in SW Florida,my boat is 2007 H-36 so the higher the worth the boat the harder they bang you.
I will be pricing around when it is do for renewal,if any one has this same problem with newer pricey sailboats let me know where to go,if you own a sailboat worth 160,000 and have a good insurance let me know they are killing me.
I was afford half the price I pay now but no storm coverage and I said are you and crazy or just plain nuts.
I guess you really pay for living in Paradice

I am with Progressive also -- but where I am (inland) it isn't that expensive, I think it's $50/month for full coverage and a fairly high deductible. I believe location is to blame for those high rates.

I guess it depends on what coverages you're looking for. I just insured my H30 with Progressive for around $790 a year. I didn't think that was too bad. full coverage was around $1500. If you own your own home, check with your insurance guy about adding it to a homeowners policy. Sometimes it's cheaper that way. Some homeowners policies will do that up to a certain size boat.
